CHIANG MAI

Chiang Mai is located in the mountainous region of Northern Thailand. Founded in 1296, it was the capital of the independent Lanna Kingdom until 1558. The Old City area still retains remnants of walls and moats from its history as a cultural and religious center. It is also home to over 300  elaborate Buddhist temples, including the 14th-century Wat Phra Singh and 15th-century Wat Chedi Luang which are adorned with carved serpents.

Blessed with beautiful nature blended with the Lanna culture is what attracts millions of tourists, both Thai and international to visit Chiang Mai.  Some of the popular tourist activities in the area include the worshipping of the Phra That Doi Suthep, an important landmark of Chiang Mai.  Experience the local way of life and shop for stylish handmade products at Thapae Walking Street or stroll through the variety of species of plants that can be found at the Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden and Rajapruek Royal Park. Do not forget to shop for art products, taste the local cuisine or witness the culture on Nimmanhaemin road. As well, Chiang Mai offers unmissable nature and mountain tours which also include  stepping on the highest point of Thailand at the top of Doi Inthanon. Absorb the beauty of the rice fields, feel the cool breeze while watching the giant tiger flower at Doi Ang Khang. Experience ecotourism homestay in Mae Kampong and visit Hmong villages in Doi Pui and many more.

Voted as one of the most famous cities in the world by travel publications like Travel and Leisure and TripAdvisor, Chiang Mai is the gateway to the north with easy connections to neighboring provinces and a growing aviation hub linking Thailand and countries in the Asian region.

With an average temperature of 25°C, which is cooler than the rest of the country, it welcomes tourists throughout the year, especially during the Songkran Festival in April. The high tourism season starts from November till February — typically the best time to visit when the cold weather attracts both locals and international travelers.
